Screen Time Harmony for Kids

A general rule for watching TV and playing tablet games is that the first information the brain processes will be what it continues to seek later. Therefore, when choosing content for your child, ensure it is educational.

For instance, BBC films about animals are just 20 minutes long, which is ideal for children. When it comes to tablet games, opt for tasks like sorting vegetables into a basket or landing airplanes, and eventually, they will be ready for chess.

By adhering to these guidelines, your child won’t crave less educational games. Initially, they won’t be aware of other options, and later, they won’t desire them because their brains will adapt to processing specific types of content.

Rules for TV:

• Absolutely no screens during meals!
Never in life, under any circumstances. Eating habits are formed in childhood. How you perceive food, satiety, tastes, and pleasure. Don’t deprive children of these experiences! Many are already dieting by the age of 10 or 12 because they don’t know how to regain what nature has given them - a normal relationship with food!

• Don’t turn on cartoons two hours before bedtime!
The trend of watching innocent cartoons while lying in bed leads to the brain processing a vast amount of unnecessary information during sleep, rather than focusing on what the child learned in educational activities or swimming lessons throughout the day.

• Limit viewing time to a maximum of 20 minutes at a time.

• Avoid overly stimulating shows, especially for children with high energy levels or attention issues.

• Aim for a balance of 50% nature documentaries and 50% cartoons.

Rules for Tablets:

• Keep the sound off!
In addition to games that provide instructions (like putting the cabbage in the basket), all game developers are aware of how sound can influence the brain. This approach has long been utilized in stores and restaurants, and in games, it has become the gold standard. Encouraging a child to play without sound can significantly reduce the time they spend on gadgets.

• Choose only beneficial games that involve problem-solving through learning and logic. Games like bingo, puzzles, road-building, navigating through complex mazes, checkers, and chess are excellent options.

• Don’t forget the hour-long bedtime ritual—no gadgets for either young children or teenagers during this time. If a child of any age plays games before sleeping, the quality of information processed throughout the day will likely diminish—whether they are learning letters or solving math problems in school. The brain will prioritize gaming tasks over learning academic content.

Embrace modernity without harming your children! In today's digital age, it’s essential to use gadgets wisely. Instead of allowing excessive screen time, introduce your little ones to the captivating world of educational toys from Montessori Dynasty. These toys not only spark creativity and imagination but also promote essential skills in a fun and engaging way.
